Best Winter Skincare Tips And Tricks For Older Women

Author:  Maria Alfano

Need some winter skincare tips?  Having trouble with dryness and itching?  You are not alone.  Aging skin requires extra care during the colder months.  Taking good care of it is not as difficult as you think.  A little TLC will go a long way to moist supple skin during the cold weather.

Say goodbye to scaly, itchy, dry skin in about a week and start your journey to gorgeous skin.  Follow the right steps and you will love the results.

Winter Skincare Tips

For years I suffered from extremely dry skin during the cold winter months.  My skin got progressively worse as I aged.   The lack of estrogen and progesterone hormones that accompanied menopause didn’t help matters.  I found the biggest culprit of dry skin is a lack of moisture.  You can easily reverse the winter dryness and look great again in less than one week.

Best Winter Skincare Tips And Tricks For Older Women

With so many symptoms of dry skin, you will have a headstart on taking good care of the largest organ of the body.  All you need is to know what they are how to take care of this organ.

This post is all about the symptoms of aging dry skin and tips and tricks for taking care of it well.

Symptoms Of Dry Skin

Some symptoms are more obvious than others.  While some symptoms you may not even associate with dry skin.  Collagen is the key protein that keeps the skin looking full and supple.  As you age the collagen breaks down and is no longer able to support the outer layer of the skin.

Winter Skincare

Flaking skin – look like fishy scales and is usually peeling.  This is a pretty obvious symptom of dry skin.

Itchy skin – can be a sign of other skin conditions but it is synonymous with aging dry skin.

Cracked hands or feet – these can be very painful if not taken care of.  And, they can be a symptom of other more serious conditions.  Either way, you need to take care of both.

Tightness after bathing – whenever you come out of the shower or from swimming and your skin feels tight, this is an early sign of aging dry skin.  It is not as obvious and you may just brush it off.  Pay attention to how often it happens.  Try taking shorter showers to help with your winter skincare routine.

Darken or greying skin tones – think of your skin like a desert.  The drier the land, the darker it appears.  Your skin is the same.  The lack of hydration and decreasing hormones, give your skin a greying or ashy hue.

Winter Skincare

Winter is the hardest time of year for aging kin.  There is almost zero moisture in the air and the cold weather drives everyone inside into a heated home.  The extra heat combined with the dryness will play havoc on your dermis.

From The Inside

Water – the key to hydration is plenty of fluids.  Without enough water, you will counteract all the good things you are doing on the outside.  You need to feed your cells from the inside out as much as you do from the outside.  Drinking 8 glasses of water can be difficult when it is bitterly cold outside, but your body and your skin don’t care about the weather.  They need the water more than you care to acknowledge.

Water

Vitamin B5 – taking a B5 will give your skin a good boost from the inside out.  Its hydrating factors help to absorb moisture.

From The Outside

Moisturize – it is uber important to moisturize and feed the cells what they need most – hydration.  A good moisturizer is one that will target specific parts of your body because the skin on your face is not the same as the skin on your legs.  You should be moisturizing daily, especially in the winter.  And, the moisturizer you use in the summer will not protect you in the winter.

Coconut oil – this is a natural moisturizer that is so good for your skin.  A little goes a long way.  It will give your skin the lift and the soft glow it needs during these harsh cold days.  Be sure to blend it well into your skin or it will leave a greasy film.

Exfoliate – a loofa is the easiest way to get rid of those unwanted scales on your skin.  Removing the dead skin will allow the fresh new skin to surface and give you a beautiful glow.  There are plenty of exfoliating creams if you prefer to take that route.  I would recommend this process no more than once or twice per week in order to give your skin enough time to regenerate between exfoliations.

Loofa

Natural Soaps – avoid harsh chemical soaps that claim to be beauty bars.  They often will dry out the skin even more.  Use olive oil, shea butter, or goat’s milk soaps instead.

Olive Oil Soap

Sunscreen – apply, apply apply!  Even in the dead of winter, the sun’s rays continue to do harm to your mature skin.  Sunburn will age your skin just as much in the winter as it does in the summer.  Menopause doesn’t need any extra help.

Personal humidifier – having a whisper-quiet personal humidifier on your bedside table at night will put the moisture into the air that forced air heat takes out.  You will wake up feeling refreshed and your skin will love the attention.  If all else fails, keep a cup of water on the heat vent.  As the water evaporates, the moisture will fill your room.

In Summary

Winter skincare is in your hands.  Start early to avoid the snakeskin effect.  With these simple, easy-to-use, and inexpensive methods, your aging skin will look soft, supple, and radiant in no time at all.  We would love to hear from you.  Which of these tips worked best for you?  Do you have a tip you would like to share?

This post was all about the symptoms of dry skin and some tips and tricks using simple winter skincare tips and tricks.
