Supplement Your Pension With These 5 Remote Income Opportunities

Now you may be asking yourself, who will hire me at my age?  Well, you will be surprised how many organizations out there are looking for people just like you, with your experience, and your knowledge.  Don’t count yourself out just yet.

I have a friend who is close to 80 and has so much spunk that she just keeps getting these little odd jobs to fill her time and her pocketbook at the same time.  If she can do it…so can you.

How Much Can You Earn without affecting your Social Security or monthly pension?

In the US, anyone who has reached the age of retirement and is receiving their full social security may earn up to an extra $21,240 in 2023.

For Canadians, the amount of income you can earn while collecting your monthly pension is not limited.  You will however need to make choice to continue or to stop contributing to CPP if you are between the ages of 65 and 70.  Each year that you continue to contribute to CPP between the ages of 65 and 70 will increase your monthly pension amount.

Can I collect Social Security at age 62 and still work?

For US citizens, you can start collecting early.  However, keep in mind that if you earn too much money at a job, your monthly pension can be suspended temporarily.

Canadians may also request to have their pension payments start early with one caveat.  For each year prior to age 65 that you start collecting, your monthly pension amount will decrease.

Are you good with digital art?  Can you create business cards, book jackets, or visual arts?  Do you know how to format text?  Do you have a distinctive voice?

These businesses are right up your alley.

• Fiverr.com – unleash your creative side as often as you want to per month and make a decent little profit.  You determine the price for your service.  And, you decide how often you want to work.  The fee paid to Fiverr for using their platform is 20% of your “gig” price.  This platform is one of the more reasonable ones and makes it affordable for a wider range of customers.
• 99Design.com – for the more advanced designer, this site is perfect.  Create anything you would in Fiverr but take it up a notch.  And, you can command a minimum of $99 per design and up.  The better your experience, the higher the quality of your work, which is what determines how much you will share with 99Design.  The fees start and 15% for entry-level designers and go down to 5% for highly experienced designers.

2 – Translation Services

Do you speak a second language?  And, do you have some spare time on your hands that you would like to fill with something productive?  Of course, you also want to make some additional moolah every month to supplement your pension income.  Well, these remote opportunities might be just what the doctor ordered.

• GoTranscript.com – take advantage of the second language and make some money with it.  You can earn as little as 60 cents per word but the sky is the limit.  Depending on the language, you can earn more.  Translate everything from text documents to recorded voice and videos.

• Gengo.com – another translation service that pays by the word.  Pick your language and translate.  They provide 2 options one for everyday common usage and one for professional usage like that required in a business presentation.  You will be paid a different rate for each job with the professional jobs being worth more.

3 – Virtual Call Center Jobs

I’m sure you have had a pizza or your favorite Chinese food delivered to your door after placing a quick phone call.  There are restaurants that hire remote workers to work as few or as many hours as they desire to help answer the calls and process the orders.

Or, you have placed an order from a retailer like Walmart and you decide to do an online chat to ask questions.  Many of these are remote workers too.

• Macy’s – hires many remote workers, especially during peak seasons like Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or Mother’s Day.  Pick your own hours and earn approximately $16 per hour.  All you need is a computer and phone to get started.
• PizzaHut.com – is always looking for folks to answer their customer’s calls and place orders.  Spend a few hours per week at the time that works best for you and earn between $13 and $16 per hour during your spare time.
• Uhaul.com – help book their reservations and answer customer queries from your very own living room and earn up to $20 per hour depending on the job.

4 – Financial Services Remote Income Opportunities

• Primer.io– offers business services that allow companies to accept payment methods other than cash.  If you’re familiar with SQUARE, PAYPAL, or even STRIPE, then you will know that Primer.io provides a similar service.  They have a variety of remote jobs that can be performed from anywhere in the world – literally.  The job postings actually say that!

5 – Flex Jobs

One of the best resources I have found for work-from-home jobs is Flexjobs.com.  No matter what your skill set, hobby, or wish list is for the ideal remote income opportunities, Flex Jobs has something for everyone.  Peruse at your leisure and apply for those that tickle your fancy.  After all, this is your retirement and the kind of money you want to make to supplement your retirement income is totally up to you.

In Summary

You are in charge of your life and financial situation even after you stopped working.  Pension and social security income don’t have to cramp your lifestyle.  You can increase that monthly stipend with some really interesting remote income opportunities or maybe even start your only side hustle.
